Alongside the great views from the campground, Cedar Pass is near the Ben Reifel Visitor Center and the eastern edge of the Badlands Loop State Scenic Highway. We have the best location you’ll find in the Black Hills area – 14 miles from Mount Rushmore and 5 miles from Rapid City. Hwy. 16, also known as Mt. Rushmore Road, is well maintained and very easy for our guests to navigate, even with the largest rigs.

We do have a few long 50amp sites that easily accommodate modern RVs. Pactola Reservoir is located 15 miles west of Rapid City. It is the largest and deepest reservoir in the Black Hills National Forest, boasting 14 miles of shoreline and 150 foot depths on 800 acres. Large brown trout are caught in Rapid Creek above and below the reservoir. Facilities include a full service marina with seasonal, monthly and daily slips, gasoline, oil, groceries, food service, shower and laundry.

Touring one of the most unique cave systems in the world was a lot of fun for our entire family. Afterwards, take a lovely hike through the prairie where the kids can now say they have walked over and under the same part of the Earth. And to make it all even better, the wildlife watching was some of the best in the Black Hills. Or big hikes with big rewards but still doable for most families? The management does a great job maintaining the property, The horses stay in the stallls and are not allowed through the camp. They also have small cabins, a bunkhouse and a area for tent campimg. They put us in the new section which is right as your come into the park.

South Dakota is the vacation spot to beat with national monuments and Deadwood located right in the region. Next is a small RV campsite called Black Elk Resort, which features only 8 RV camping spots. However, these spots are well-equipped – each has water access, a picnic table, a park-style grill, and electric & sewer hookups. And while it’s true that there are no campsites next to the National Memorial, there are plenty of them in its vicinity.

The restrooms were extremely clean as were the showers, however there was no hot water when we tried to shower. We liked this place as it had everything we needed and would definitely stay there again. Best suited for tent camping and small camper units, the Sage Creek Campground offers plenty of outlets for hiking, exploring, and appreciating the wide-open Badlands environment. To experience as much of this rugged environment as you can, it’s recommended to stay more than a few nights at any one of the nearby campgrounds in Badlands National Park.

Beyond the shores of Roubaix Lake, the Black Hills have plenty of attractions to explore, including Mount Rushmore, which is an hour away. The real appeal of the Sylvan Lake Campground however, can be found nearby on the shimmering, mile-long shore of Sylvan Lake, accurately nicknamed the Crown Jewel of Custer State Park. Although we haven’t stayed there, we’ve heard good things about this RV park. That way you could get a little bit of privacy but still be able to enjoy the scenery when you step outside. The Cedar Pass Campground is within walking distance of the Lodge (0.25 miles and they have a nice sidewalk between the campground and the main building). It is very close to the ampitheater, which is right by the group camp. Apparently they do a wonderful stargazing program here in the summer which I would love to do and look through their telescopes. The campground has 96 sites spread out over 2 loops called Agate and Butte, as well as a group camp loop that has 4 sites.

Since its beginnings, The Hideout has always been an exceptionally clean, organized, and well-maintained guest ranch. It is one of the reasons many of our repeat guests return year after year.We are not your typical dude ranch. We are a small guest ranch with approximately 25 guests each week, because it is important to keep our guests’ experience personal. Our guests leave The Hideout feeling as though they are not guests, but family. Almost all of the campsites are completely exposed, there are like 5 trees in the whole campground and it is pretty flat.
